What counts as a compliant fence material?
Metal, masonry, and other noncombustible materials. Within the 0-5 ft zone the connection to the structure matters most: a noncombustible gate or panel at the house breaks the wick even if the rest of the run is wood.
Does my HOA have a say in the replacement fence?
Usually yes on looks. Westlake Village is a planned community and much of the city is governed by homeowners associations with design standards dating to the original 1960s master plan. Work with the HOA on style, color, and height, and confirm with LA County Fire and the city about any rule that applies.
